STRUCK BY A TRAIN

RAILWAY PORTER HURT AUCKLAND STATION ACCIDENT Severe head injuries and lacerations to the left foot were suffered by Mr. Edmund Allenby Edgar, railway porter, aged 20, of Maurice Road, Penrose, when he was struck at the Auckland Railway Station by a passenger train arriving from Henderson shortly before 7 o'clock yesterday morning. The icei* dent occurred when Mr, Edgar was crossing from the staff room to No. 7 platform to meet the early express from Wellington. Prompt action by the driver of the train caused it to draw up within a carriage length. The injured man was removed in a St. John ambulance to the Auckland Hospital, where his condition last night was reported to be serious.
