WRESTLING ITEMS
MATCH ON MONDAY NEXT FRALEY TO OPPOSE DETTON Dean Detton, whose display against Pat Meehan in Auckland last Saturday night was so impressive, will have his second match here next Monday, when he will bo opposed to Pat Fraley at the Town Hall. Saturday's bout served to show that Detton is all that has been said about him during his brilliant successes over the past few years. Next Monday will provide an opportunity ol: seeing what he is like when matched with tho man who has shown himself to bo the toughest proposition to date this season.
Fraley is certainly an opponent worthy of Detton's steel, few wrestlers possessing liner records. He is very much of the same size and build as the formers world's champion. Fraley has wrestled impressively against all opponents in New Zealand and he fully extended J)etton in their bout at Wellington last Monday night. The only fall of the match was obtained by Detton in the last round. Prior to that Fraley was ahead on points. With magnificent physique as one of his main assets, Detton has developed his wrestling until Haws in it are exceedingly hard to detect, while no man is quicker at discovering a weakness in his opponent's armour and exploiting it to the full. What has most pleased those New Zealauders who remember Detton's performances in the past is the fact that, he has kept all his speed and exploits it even more than before. It is doubtful, for instance. whether any other wrestler can use such an explosive flying tackle as that which Detton launches when tho opportunity offers. _ , Another respect in which Detton lias developed is in the use of elbow jolts, which were introduced to the sport only comparatively recently. Detton has shown that he Is more than capable of taking care ol himself when jolts are brought into the picture, being not only an elusive target, bub also a man who can hit with terrific power with either elbow. Against Median, Detton showed much of his ability, but a feeling was left that lie still had reserves to call upon. Judging from the Wellington eolitest, he will be unable to leave any reserves untouched when he meets Fraley again. The latter is undeniably a solid proposition and there should he many thrilling'moments while he ami Detton are in the ring.
