A SPURIOUS COIN

In all innocence a Hemuera housewife tendered a counterfeit half-crown in payment for some groceries the other day, but the worthless coin is still in her possession, because, of the shop assistant's early discovery. In many respects the coin is a passable imitation. although faults are revealed by close scrutiny. It is similar to a largo number of spurious half-crowns, dated 1933, seized by the police some years ago, but as no recent complaints liav® been received, the police do not consider that any further counterfeit coins have been put into circulation.
