CASES OF DROWNING

REVIVAL OF VICTIMS USE OF NEW SERUM CANADIAN SCIENTIST'S CLAIM (Received July 17, G. 30 p.m.) TORONTO. July 16 Sir Frederick Banting, professor of medical research at the University of Toronto, -who discovered insulin, announced that the city police were testing a new serum for resuscitating apparently drowned persons. He declined to describe the treatment, but said it had proved effective when used upon animals. It was understood that the serum was injected into tho neck and amounted virtually to an intravenous injection of oxygen. Auckland doctors who have had long experience of dealing, with apparently drowned persons said last night that there were not sufficient details in the cable message to enable them to comment upon the discovery. No such experiments had been described in available medical journals. Oxygen had been injected intravenously in the past, but not in the form of a serum.
