BEACH AT DURBAN
WORK OF RECLAIMING i SEVERAL ACRES RESTORED [from ouh own correspondent] f. - DURBAN. June 1 After years of fruitless effort to check the erosion of Durban Beach and restora the wide saiids which were once a popular attraction to holiday-makers from all parts of South Africa, engineers have at last found a successful remedy. Dredgers'which pick up sand in tho~ bay now tie up at a wharf and pump , their loads through long iron pipes to the beach. After operating for only four months they have succeeded in reclaiming about 20 acres of beach. Two loads of sand are delivered a day, Knd it is confidently anticipated by experts that Durban will soon recover every square inch of the beach it has lost—perhaps a great deal more.
