The match was played in beautiful weather and before a large crowd. It was a good game from tho spectators' point of view. The ground broke up half-way throngn the match, causing misjudgment in hitting, and consequently passing and combination suffered in the second spell. Tho teams were evenly matched and all the players showed good form. Perhaps two to shino were Miss Dowling for England and Miss McKenzie for New Zealand. The combination of both teams wis good, although the positional play of the English eleven was slightly better. Clever tactics by the English team wore seen. The English fullbacks were stronger than those of New Zealand, and Miss Huggins was hard to beat in the English goal. New Zealand attacked strongly throughout. Tho halves fed the forwards well, not allowing the English defence a chance to let up. Miss Mackte was always prominent in the New Zealand half line The score at halftime was 3 —l in favour of England. Scorers for Encland wero Misses O'Ponoghuo (2) and West (2). The match was played in bright sunshine and there was no wind. After a hard frost on Friday night tho ground was greasy the ball and almost uncanny anticipation Time after time they caught tho ball In midair on their sticks and deflected to one of their own players. They played as a team and no member held selfishly to the ball. They exploited the back pass and even sold a dummy as a variant. Tho crowd called to Fernandez to repeat a movement in which he made his way down the wing with the ball bouncing on the end of his stick. Although they usually used the flick shot, the Indians showed that they could put power behind their shots when necessary. Abdul Latif had a field day, scoring six goals. The right inside was well supported by Shahabuddin on the wing and the pair were responsible for a good deal of the attacking movements. Feroz Khan and Ahmijd Khan also scored for the Indians. The Southland team fought a losing fight all the way through, but never let up. although they were hemmed in in their own territory for much of the game N. Poole was frequently applauded for his many fine saves, flis goalkeeping was outstanding. Barraclough and Lythgoe were the hardest-worked pair on tho field and much of the credit of keeping the score down'is due to them. Both these fullbacks tried to turn the tide in favour of Southland by rushing through to half-way, but tho opposition was t-oo strong. The Southland forward line did- not properly settlo down, although each member showed up briefly in several rushes, which faded before they really became dangerous.
