EOAD RACES DECIDED MANUKAU CLUB'S EVENTS TRIALS FOR AVON BUTTON Two road races were decided by tho Manukau Amateur Cycling Club on Saturday afternoon. The first trials were held for the Avon Button, presented by tho Avon Club, of Christchurch, for the rider to make the fastest lap from a standing start. On their first laps the seniors made the trophy their goal., J. Gillbanks was first to create fast figures with 6m 255, but the scratch pair, Langridge and Triner, wero even faster. Langridge beat Triner to the lino by 10yds., to clock 6m 225, the fastest time of tho day.

Among the 32 seniors in their 20 mile# race over eight laps was E. I. Donaldson, of Wanganui, and scratch rider of his club. He gave a fine exhibition to finish eighth from tho 1m 45s mark.

The result was: —W. W. Gallagher (7m) t 50in 41s, 1; F. P. Murphy (7m), 59m 455, 2; W. O'Shaughnessy (sm), 58m 355, 3. E. Langridge was fastest rider in 54 m 9s. Of the 17 juniors, McEwcn was prominent from tho start. He led tho field at the end of one lap, and eventually won the five miles race by 300 yds. The result was: —E. A. McEwcn (4m Jss), 15m 375, 1; E. J. Finnigan (4m 15s), 10m 6s, 2; L. McFarlane (2m 30m), 14m 335, 3. F. Tredrca, off 455, was fastest rider in 13m 535. AUCKLAND CLUB The annual contest for the Cleaver Memorial Cup was held under the control of tho Auckland Cycle Club at Panmure on Saturday afternoon. Record fields took part, both in the senior and junior races. Results were:— Juniors.—lt. Manson (sm), 29m 4s. 1; R. Gilmour (5m 15s), 27m lis, 2; E. Machen (2m 355), 27m 12s, 3; D. Hills (scr) made fastest time in 26m 6s. Seniors. —D. Banks (6m 20s), 55m 10s, 1; S. Barr (sm), 54m, 2; P. Aberhart (3m 30s), 53m 50s, 3. Fastest time: J. Wade (scr) 52m 12s. LYNNDALE CLUB The Lynndale Cycling Club held a combined 15%-miles race oh Saturday. The result was:—J. White (4m 15s), 46m 14s, 1; S. Nash (4m 15s), 46m 15s, 2; E. Carr (3m 15s), 45m 16s, 3. Fastest time: E. Carr (3m 15s), 45m 16s. Three Mile Ladies' Race. —P. Dorricot (2m), 11m 555, 1; L. Arrol (scr), 10m 30s, 2. TEAMS* CONTEST A teams' contest held by the Auckland Cycling Centre on Saturday resulted as follows:—Lynndale (G. Hughes. A. Silcock, W. Barnett, H. Hawke, H. Baldwin), 4h 15m 465, 1; Northern, 4h 17m 245, 2; Papatoetoe, 4h 22m 375, 3. With two races for the shield now held, the position of the clubs is: Northern Club, 8h 42m 335; Papatoetoe, 8h 42m 595; Lynndale, 8h 44m Is. BEACH HAVEN CLUB Senior and junior races were held by the Beach Haven Cycle Club on Saturday. Results were:— Juniors, 12 Miles. —L. Bloor (9m), 42m 445, 1: A. Osborne (9m), 43m 365, 2; L. Reed (3m), 38m 475, 3. W. Harris made fastest time off scratch in 36m 325. Seniors, 24 Miles. —A. Elia (scr), 71m 295, I;'D. Patten (scr), 7]m 30s, 2; R. Elia (2m 30s), 74m Is, 3. A. Elia made fastest time.

TAKAPUNA CLUB The Takapuna Cycling Club's HVi-miles road race on Saturday resnlted:—J. Pritchard (sm), 32m 435, 1; R. Moor# (sm), 2; K. Vosper (lm 30s), 3. D. Lawrence (30s) gained fastest time in 29m 10s. METROPOLITAN CLUB The Metropolitan Cycle Club held a 25miles handicap event under ideal conditions on Saturday.. The result was:—J. Bicknell (4m 455), 70m 40s. 1; C. White (9m 15s), 77m lis, 2; JrHuckstep (6m 30s), 74m 38s. 3. Bicknell was also the fastest rider NORTHERN CLUB The Northern Amateur Cycle Club held a 20-miles combined senior and junior race on the club's circuit at Te Papapa on Saturday. The result was:—J. Guppy (8m), 59m 275. 1; S. Beasley (8m), 59m 28s, 2; J. Macdermott (7im 30s), 59m 7s, 3. Fastest time: G. Cunningham (2m), 55m 4oS.

PAPATOETOE CLUB Tho Papatoetoe Cycling Club held on Saturday afternoon a 17 miles combined senior and junior event. The result was:—l. Ludlum (3m), 48in 20s, 1; I. Vost (4m 30s), 49m o3s, 2; E.
