DIAMOND JUBILEE

WOIiKING MEN'S CLUB CELEBRATION BALL HELD FUNCTION AT TOWN HALL To mark the diamond jubilee at present being celebrated by the Auckland Working Men's Club and Mechanics' Institute, a very largely attended ball was held in the Town Hall last night. A most attractive decorative scheme, bright and popular music and a programme of both modern and old-time dances combined to make the function one of outstanding success. A canopy of feathery lycopodium intermingled with orange and yellow lights was suspended from the central electrolier to the gallery, and under this were strung loops of red and rosecoloured lights, backed by hanging baskets of ferns. The stage was transformed into a bower of greenery with bamboo foliage, palms and flowering pot plants, while bowls of dainty spring flowers decorated the supper room tables. Welcome to the Guests On arrival the guests were received by tho president, Mr. R. G. Jones, and Mrs. Jones, and the vice-president, Mr. J. McAffer, and Mrs. McAfler. In welcoming the guests, Mr. Jones said it was hoped that on the occasion of another dance given by the club it would be possible to hold it on the club premises. Certain alterations and additions were being effected to the building which, when completed, would provide every facility for a successful dance to be held there. A brief welcome was also extended by Mrs. Jones on behalf of the ladies' committee. Mrs. Jones was wearing a sky blue and powder blue georgette redingote frock, and Mrs. McAfler was in black ring velvet. Representatives of the Returned Soldiers' Association, the New Zealand Yacht Squadron, the Auckland Commercial Travellers' Association, the Cosmopolitan Clubs of Wanganui and I'almerston North, and the New Zealand president of the Working Men's Clhb and Mechanics' Institute, Mr. J.
