ENGLISH WOMEN'S TEAM DEFEAT OF AKITIO [liv TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] PALMERSTON NORTH, Tuesday The English women's hockey team beat Akitio at Pongaroa to-day by nine goals to nil. The ground was sodden. The visitors were superior throughout. At the Aolmnga Station, on the East Coast, the visitors were entertained at a special steer-riding exhibition. NEW ZEALAND TEAM CRITICISM OF SELECTORS [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] DUNEDIN, Tuesday t Strong protest against the action of the Now Zealand Hockey Association's selectors in their choice of the team to meet the Indian team was made at a meeting of the Otago Association on the grounds that reasonable consideration had .apparently not been given to the cluims of Otago and Southland players for inclusion in the test team. It was stated that the Southland Association had a similar grievance. It was decided to ask for the support of that body in a protest to bo made to the New Zealand Association regarding the methods of selection. RODNEY ASSOCIATION Following were the results of matches played under the control of the Rodney Hockey Association: —Kaipara Flats. 2 (W. Martin), Matakaua A, l (1). Jones); Tauhoa, (A. Hooper O. Watts 1. V. Dyer 2), Mullet Point, a (M. Algie 2, Martin); Omaha, Hi (Langridge S, N. WyaU A. Scholium 2. J. Ashton J), Wellsford, 1 (M. Grant). . , Points for the Civil Cup at the end of the first round are:—Omaha, 11; Port Albert. 12; Home Valley. 11; Tauhoa. 7; Matakana A, 7; Kaipara Flats, l!; Mullet Point, ((; Wellsford, ">i Matakana 13, 0. Ladies' matches resulted: —Kaipara Flats won from WelUford by default; Tauhoa, 2, Port Albert. 2.
