PONSONBY CRUISING CLUB DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES The Ponsonby Cruising Club held its annual <listribution of prizes and dance in the Peter Pan Cabaret last night, There was a very large attendance of members and visitors, including representatives from the Suva and Paramatta Yacht C'iubs and kindred clubs od the Waitemata and Manukau. In extending a welcome to the visitors, the commodore. Mr. J. J. Mackay, stated that the past season had been a very successful one. In addition to allotting many valuable cups, the club had distributed £llO in cash prizes. The average entry for each racing day was 102, and no fewer than 52 different boats received prizes. A feature of the season was the annual inter-club contest for the Lipton Cup, for 22ft. mullet boats, and, on behalf of the club, he congratulated the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron on winning the cup with the Tamariki. During the season the Ponsonby Club had sent the 1-lft Y class boat Mania to represent it at (he Paramatta Regatta, and its owner. Captain J. McKinnofi. had won the McKenzio Cup and also the regatta banner for the fastest time over the course. In a special contest between representatives from the Suva and Ponsonby clubs the former had been successful. In presenting the prizes, the president, Captain J. McKinnon. paid a tribute to tho excellent services rendered by the commodore and nis officers and committee during tho past year. Mr. K. Draffin, vice-chairman of the Auckland Yacht and Motor-boat Association, apologised for the absence ol' the chairman, Mr. C. 11. T. Palmer, and returned thanks on behalf of kindred clubs The most important prizes were won by tho following:—Lipton Cup, Tamariki, representing the Royal New Zealand tycht Squadron; Suffolk Cup, Spray; Ponsonby Cup. Surprise; Fanners' Cup, Mahana; Coronation Cup, Avenger; Winter Cup, Invader; llcwson Memorial Cup and medals, Robin; McKay Cup, Betty; Pollard Cup, Lyla; McKenzio Cup (Paramatta), Mania; Willcock Cup, Sybila; aggregate points cup, over 18ft, Corona; under ISft, Sybila; champion flags, II class, Corona; L class, Macushla; V class, Shamrock; S class, Mahana; Y class, Tempest; T and X classes, Invader; Z class, L.vla; Mahnrangi Pogatta champion flag. Mania. Other prizes were won by the following:— H class, Corona. Starlight, Bluestreak, Arawa; L class. Winifred. Valkyna. Marika, Korruri, Vamarie, Wairere. Tamariki, Macushla; V class, llawk, Leverette, Charn v aine. Vaalele. Shamrock. Mantnru. Velox. Surprise; Y class, Demon, Kea, Tempest, Swallow, Challenge, Alua, Rebel, Avenger; S class, Sonoma. Robin. Each member of the crew of Tamariki, winner of the Lipton Cup, was presented, on behalf of Mr. A. Thompson, with a walking stick made from a broken bowsprit belonging to Tamariki.
