POSSIBILITY QUESTIONED EXPLOITATION OF MINERALS SYDNEY, July 8 A member of Admiral Byrd's second expedition to the Antarctic, Mr. B. R. O'Brien, who is now visiting Sydney from New Zealand, said that, for various reasons, any commercial exploitation of gold, coal or any other mineral deposits in the ico area was impossible. Mr. O'Brien was referring to the proposals made on Monday for the Federal Government to consult with the British and New Zealand Governments to see whether any purpose could be served by organising an expedition to the Antarctic.
