CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES CARLAW PARK CONTESTS LEADING TEAMS MEET TO-DAY The leading teams in tho senior championship of the Auckland ltugby league, Mount Albert and Marist, will meet in the principal attraction at Carlaw Park this afternoon. If weather and ground conditions are favourable, the match should be one of the best of the season. Uotli teams are sound on defence and high scoring; does not appear likely. On the other hand, however, there are some clever players in the rearguards of each team. To date the Marist backs have shown the better combined form, and a repetition of this to-da.v may carry the team to victory. Mount Albert has a strong forward division, but Marist should hold the opposition in the tight. The forward exchanges are sure to be keenly contested, and possession of the ball from the scrums niay prove the deciding factor. A good curtain-miser is expected between Newton and City, with prospects favouring the former. The chief match on the No. 2 ground will be staged by Richmond and North Shore.
