FURTHER PROSECUTIONS ONE MAN ,SENT TO PRISON FINES IN OTHER CASES Several men were fined and one was sentenced to a term of imprisonment when they appeared in the Police Court yesterday on charges of making false statements concerning income and obtaining money by false pretences from the Employment Promotion Fund. Mr. W. A. Black appeared for the Labour Department. Mr. sa'd 24 false declarations ""ere made by Tiarry Tuki, a native of Niue Island. Accused had been on sustenance last yetr, but had been working intermittently on the waterfront. As a result of the false declarations accused had received au excess of £l7. Accused was fined £l7 10s and ordered to pay costs, 10s, on the charge of obtaining money by false pretences. For making false statements, h© was sentenced to two weeks' imprisonment with hard labour. Pleading guilty to similar charges, Noel Cameron Kidd admitted receiving an excess of £2 14s lid. On one chargp he was fined £5 and on a second hj«» was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon, within 6ix Months. / Admitting having made one false statement and receiving £3 18s to which he was not entitled, Theodore Payter was fined £6 10s. For making nine false declarations and receiving £8 15s excess sustenance. Charles Raisbeck was fined £lO and ordered to pay costs, 10s. Patrick Walter Stepanicic, who admitted making eight false declarations and receiving an excess of £7 7s 2d, was fined £]l and ordered to pay costs, 10s. James Allen Bennett Dabb was £ 7 on a similar charge.
