OVERCROWDED SCHOOL

POSITION AT WHANGAREI | BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI. Friday Dismay at the shortage of accommodation at. the girls' school of the Whangarei High School was expressed at a meeting of parents of scholars. The crowded conditions, it was stated, unduly hampered the girls and the teaching staff. The crowded conditions at the girls' hostel were also criticised. The Board of Governors has beeti striving to secure better conditions for the pupils and the Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Eraser, had promised that the position would be alleviated. So far, however, no action has been taken and the Minister is to be again approached. The building at present used as the girls' school was erected nearly 50 years ago and over three times as many pupils arc taught in it as it was designed to accommodate.
