SYLLABUS AND STAFFING LEGISLATION PROPOSED [from our own correspondent] PTJTARURU Wednesday "The Government has under conrideration new schemes for the grading ind classification of teachers and the itaffing of schools, which it is hoped will go far toward ensuring a better supply of teachers and greater stability of staffing for schools," stated the Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Fraser, in a letter which was read by Mr. A. t. Moncur, M.P., at the golden jubilee celebrations of the Tirau public school. "Special committees have reported to me on an improved scheme of education, and on a comprehensive test book and school library system," continued the Minister. "Legislation will be introduced this session to bring all primary and post-primary schools in the same education district under one controlling board. "I believe that the school has much to offer young people after they havei reached the age or 14, and it is the intention of the Government to remodel the syllabus and to introduce legislation to enable this to be done. '"Our aim is to see that every child shail be treated ns an individual, and not merely as a member of a class," concluded Mr. Fraser. "Learning and skill are, of all wealth,'the easiest to retain and the most productive in application."
