STOCKS AND SHARES

THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE SOME EASIER MOVEMENTS The easier trend discernible in the investment market at tho close of Tuesday's business was more noticeable on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Metal issues fell back from the previous /lay's peaks and some of the front-rank' Australian industrials lost a little ground. Business as gauged by the number of transactions completed was substantially less, with a swing toward giltedged securities, which for the most part were obtained at late rates. Inquiry/ was steadily maintained for hanks, but selling quotations were difficult to obtain. Insurances were also in greater demand and Now Zealands advanced on sale. Although popular issues dependent upon tho metals market lost ground, the main body of Australian investments showed considerable resistance to the easier turn in the market. The pause was reflected to some degree in Broken Hill Proprietaries, which were quoted down to 59s 6d. The ground lost in other issues was slight, while Australian Glass were definitely firmer. New Zealand issues, in which a fair turnover was recorded, were steady to firm.
