BIRKENHEAD COMPLAINT The Birkenhead Borough Council decided last night to co-operate with the Health Department with a view to' overcoming the smoke nuisance alleged to be caused by tlio Chelsea sugar works.
The medical officer of health, Dr. T. J. Hughes, wrote stating that the attention of the department had been drawn to the complaint. From observations made by officers of the department. it would appear, the letter stated, that the nuisance would bo remedied by'the provision by the Suyar Company of automatic stokers for the furnaces now without them, and improving the type operating in connection with the main furnaces. The company had been written to, and suggestions and recommendations had been made.
