SPANISH ORPHANS
APPEAL FOR ASSISTANCE A letter from the National Relief Committee for Spanish refugee children was received at last, night's meeting of tho Takapuna Borough Council. The letter stated that thoro were at present 55,000 orphaned children in Spain and that was increasing at the rato of 70 a day. The committee applied for a donation and asked the council to launch an appeal for funds to assist in the committee's work. "This is a very worthy object," said tho Mayor, Mr. J. Guinivou, a ancl I think wo should open a list at the council chambers as wo did for tho Chinese relief." A motion to this effect was adopted and it was decided that a committee should be appointed at a meeting to be held on Tuesday night. The Birkenhead Borough Council decided at a meeting last night to open a subscription list for the relief of destitute Spanish children.
