OMISSION OF DICK
SYMPATHY FOR PLAYER PRIVATE FUND SUGGESTED CAMPAIGN IN AUCKLAND The misfortune of J. Dick in being excluded from the Xew Zealand team to tour Australia, through an attack of measles, was referred to by Mr. A. Billington at "last night's meeting of the Auckland Rugby Union. Mr. Bdlington said Dick's bad luck would be regretted by all Rugby enthusiasts, and it had been suggested that something might be done in the way of a public subscription to enable him to join tho team when he was fit enough. Th s suggestion had emanated from the Grammar Old Boys' Club, which had intimated that, if a subscription list were opened, it would donate £o. Mr. Arthur Tilly said there was precedent for an additional man travelling with the team, as the New Zealand 'Union in 1932 had permitted 6. Hart to travel to Australia after injuring his arm just beforo tho team sailed. Mr. J. Sweeney said the idea of a fund to send Dick to Australia was an excellent one, and the union should give it support. Dick certainly deserved the trip. Mr. L. Colgan said he thought the idea would be supported by every footballer in Auckland. The chairman, Mr. A. Baker, suggested that the New Zealand Union be communicated with, advising that the union proposed to sponsor a private fund to send Dick to Australia to join the team, and to intimato that, if this were, done, he would be available to participate in the matches if required. A Member: They will want him all right. A sub-committee was set up ,to handle arrangements in connection with the appeal. It is suggested that Dick should travel by tho Awatea next week.
