AWARDS FROM JAPAN
CULTURAL SOCIETY'S MEDALS WAIWERA TEACHER'S SUCCESS The silver medal of the Japanese Cultural Society, Tokio, has been awarded to Mr. W. Erie Rose, teacher at the Waiwera school, for an essay on friendly relations between Japan and Australia, and how and why they should be established. Awards of the society have also been irtnde to Mr. R. E. Baeyertz, of Auckland, to Mr. W. A. Booth, of Waiuku, and to Heather Scott, an Auckland schoolgirl, who won the silver medal in the junior schools' section. These awards are the result of a competition sponsored by the society and organised by the Japanese department of Melbourne University. The adjudication of the essays was carried out in Japan and the medals are to be donated by Prince Konoe.
Tho society's gold medal was won by Major J. R. Kirk, of Wellington.
