HOUSE SHORTAGE
FURNISHED HOMES EASING IN THE DEMAND No improvement is evident in the supply of the bette types of unfurnished houses for renting, according to Auckland land agents. Unfurnished houses aro still extremely scarce, although for the lower rental premises the demand appears to have been slightly eased as a result of the competition a£ State houses. Tho demand for furnished homes, however, is not as keen as it was, and it is noticeable that advertisements for tenants are more numerous than they were some little time ago. The experience of several land agents is that fower people from tho south aro spending tho winter in Auckland than has been tho experience in recent years. Another tendency noticed by agents is that, while there is still a lceen demand for flats, tho position is not as acuto as it was. Prospective tenants aro not generally so disposed to pay the high rentals ruling for many modern flats. The easing in tho demancl for furnished houses is attributed to somo extent to tho high rents demanded.
