SAFE REMOVED

LEFT INTACT ON ROAD POST OFFICE BURGLARY FRANKTON STORES ENTERED NOTHING OF VALUE TAKEN [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday Burglars entered the Whatawhata Post Office last night. Tho back window was broken and the back door was opened. Tho office safe, measuring 2ft. by 3ft., was removed from the building and was rolled over and over for a distance of 40 yards on to the road, wliero it was found unopened this morning. It is surmised that an attempt was inado to place it on a motor vehicle. Apparently no effort had been made to forco the safe.

An examination of the post offico today showed that, while many letters had been handled by tho intruders, nothing was stolen. Tho entry at tho Whatawhata Post Office is tho third that has been made within tho last two years.

For tho second timo within a brief period, the storeroom of the Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, at Frankton, was forcibly entered last night, a window being broken at tho back of the building. A cashbox was opened, but it contained only a few pennies, which were taken. A neighbouring storeroom, that of J. J. Craig, Limited, was also entered during the night, two locks on tho back door and one on the garage having been forced. Many documents were found strewn about the floor this morning, but nothing of value was missing.
