Tributes were paid to the manner in which the Dunedin Centre executive had managed the last Dominion tournament, and Mr. G. A. Nelson (Dunedin), who moved tho adoption of the report and balance-shoot in the temporary absence of tllr> immediate past president, Mr. W. Connor (Dunedin), said that the council should be thoroughly satisfied with tho condition of the association's finances. "I assure you that throughout New Zealand howlers nro very pleased that you have consented to occupy this high position." said Mr. S. M. Stone (Wellington), the actingchairman, in relinquishing his position in favour of the new president, Mr. F. A. TTosking (Auckland). The latter, in reply, said that in his four years on the council ho had learned something of its workings and was confident that, with the fine support ho would receivo from members, his position would not be too difficult. He considered that the forthcoming Dominion tourney in Auckland would be the biggest yet held. Next Championship With regard to the next championship tournament, it was agreed that the date of commencement should bo January !), 10W). and that tho order of play, singles, pairs and rinks, should be the same as last year. Some controversy arose as to I lie method of play in the singles competition. The opinions of Auckland councillors favoured tho introduction of the section method, Mr. A. E. Whitten stating he felt, that not only Aucklanders, but also visiting players, would appreciate this system. The president said that, while he favoured the automatic two-life system throughout, there was a definite demand in Auckland for sectional play. Many players did not appreciate the risk of going out after only two rounds of play. Mr. H. B. Oakey (Christchurch), In sunporting the tivo-lifo system, said that the sectional play was too arduous. However, if the Auckland officials, who were more in touch with the position locally, favoured the section methods, he was prepared to concede tho point. It was finally agreed, after a ballot. that the singles should be played on the two-life system throughout, also that the conditions governing the pairs and rinks events should be the same as those for last year. An amendment with regard to the rinks competition that post-section play should be on tho onelife principle, was defeated. Official Testing Centres fteqnests from the Marlborough, Bay of Plenty and North Auckland Centres to be recognised as official testing centres were granted. Mr. W. IT. Struckett (Auckland) was appointed tho council's official bowl tester. A suggestion from Mr. R. S. Brown, of the Sports Travel Company, England, that a party of Xew Zealand bowlers should tour Great Britain during next summer was considered. Pending an invitation from the International Bowling Bonrd. it was decided to leave the matter to the executive. Dealing with instructions to be cabled to the association's representatives on Ihe International Bowling Board, it was resolved to support the application from the American Association for admission to the International Board. A remit to be submitted by the Australian Association, suggesting that the constitution of the International Board should be altered so that England. Scotland. Wales and Ireland, also each of* the Dominions, should have two representatives, caused some controversy. and was finally supported. Mr. W. J. Truscoti, president of the Auckland Bowling Centro, said that Canada and Australia had heen lax in exercising their right for representation in the past and. until they showed sufficient keenness in this respect, they should not ask for full status. Centennial Celebrations A letter was received from the Auckland Provincial Centennial Council with regard to the proposed Centennial Games to be held in Auckland curly in 1910, suggesting that the association should make an endeavour to holt a Dominion tournament in Auckland during the course of flic celebrations. The president pointed out that, as the council at a special meeting had already decided to hold the centennial tournament in Wellington, the proposal could not ho entertained. Messrs. G. L.
