WHITEBAIT SCARCE
EFFECT OF RECENT RAIN A scarcity of whitebait lias been experienced since the opening of the season last week, the only quantities to have been despatched from the Waikato district being a 561b. lot to Wellington and 91b. to Auckland on Saturday. Some good runs of fish were seen in the Waikato River early last week, but the river is now muddy after the recent rain, although it is expected that good supplies will be available when the water clears. No whitebait have yet been received from the Bay of Plenty district, which is Auckland's second source of supply.
