July 4 Returns issued by the Ministry of Labour show that approximately 11.333,000 insured people were in employment 011 June 13, which is a decline of 4.2,000 compared with May 10, and a/ decline of 32(5,000 compared with June 21, 1937. The number of unemployed registered on June 13 waa 1,802,912, an increase of 24,107, compared with May 16, and, allowing for revisions in the method of counting unemployed, an increase of about 500,000 compared with June 21, 1937. The increase is attributable partly to local holidays and to tho extension of the Whitsun holidays.
