THIEVES ACTIVE
BUTCHERS' SHOPS RAIDED FOUR PREMISES ENTERED Four butchers' shops, two at Manures a and two at Papatoetoe, were visited by thieves 011 Monday night, but in 110 case was more than a few pence stolen. The premises at Manurewa wero those of Messrs. Hawthorn and Munro, in Station Road, and Mr. H. W. Wood, of Great South Road, the thieves gaining entry by forcing the back doors. Messrs. Hawthorn and Munro's shop at Papatoetoe was also entered, the fourth premises being those of Mr. H. Smallfield. Both are in St. George Street. The thieves removed the flyscreens covering the unlocked windows at the back of the shops. In each caso the till was forced open, but the safes were untouched.
