TAKANINI TEAMS

RETURNING TO DUTY ROYAL MIMIC'S CAMPAIGN NO PLANS FOR FLOOD TIDE Trainers arc now reeommissioning members of their teams, who have been spelling. C. Morse will have a strong team with which to start the season. Royal Mimic, who joined his establishment after the June meeting at Fllerslie, has built up a little and will race at Matamata, after which he will proceed to Gisborne to contest the jumping races there. It is suggested that Royal Mimic will then return to Takanini for treatment.

Gold Petal, an Oration gelding, ran a surprisingly good race at Tauranga. It was intended to jump him, but as lie shows quite sufficient pace, he will continue to race on the flat and will be seen in action at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting. All Oration's stock are endowed with pace.

Another in Morse's stable is a neat chestnut filly, two years old, named Hunter's Rose, by Hunting Song from Barcarole, a sister to such celebrities as Tannhauser and Cherubini. The fdly looks a likely sort.

Inquisitor Developed Parquet is on the lusty side, but by tho time the tracks dry sufficiently to suit her action she should again show her worth. Inquisitor, who has developed during his lot-np, is now doing road work. Tho son of Lysander went through a course of bunting last winter and eventually may be raced over liurdles. Tlie speedy Valimeen has wintered well, but will not race again until October. Ivy Willinyx is still on the retired list. A six-year-old gelding by To Monanui—Connemara is doing light work. Teak has been sent south. R. Millar has a team of throe. No decision has been made as to whether Flood Tide will go to Australia in the spring. Miss Lovelock and Siega are the other two members of the team and the latter may race at Matamata. A. Quinlivan has left Takanini and has returned to Hastings, taking with him Huntsman's Chorus.

W. H. Paterson's String W. H. Paterson's team includes Windcress, Hunting Cape, a coming two-year-old filly by Cape Horn —Hunting Moss; Convex, a rising four-year-old gelding by Surveyor—Rosebena; Cracker Jack, wlfo will contest hunters' races, by Lucullus —Miss Floss; and a filly by Maori Boy from Miss Floss. United has been sent to Matainata and in future will be used as a hack and hunter. W. Townsend has been confined to his bed lately. The horses are under the care of his son and Royevrus looks the picture of health. Saccone has 7.6 in tho Melbourne Cup. For a maiden performer who has raced unsuccessfully for two seasons to receive 131b. over the minimum, leaves no doubt that the Victorian handicapper is taking no chances with tho son of Surveyor. All the members of F. Smith's team are progressing, while Anion and Round Up have been doing road exercise. E. Pope sent all his team for road exercise yesterday morning, owing to the wet state of the tracks. This trainer will have a number to contest maiden races in tho coming season. No fast work was done, , but the inside grass was open for pace work.

HAWERA ACTIVITIES ARRIVAL OF NEW PUPILS H. SCALLY CHANGES QUARTERS [by telegraph—own correspondent] HAWERA. Tuesday The Hawera tracks are quiet, but with the first Taranaki winter meeting only three weeks off, activities will shortly be revived. The outside of the course proper was open along the back and the was very heavy. Student Prince (Moukley) and Kokako (Cole), the Hunting Song—Hinewai two-year-okl in J. Brown's stable, sprinted two furlongs in 27 2-os. The latter had his first fast work during the week-end and lie shapes satisfactorily. He is a big gelding and, like the majority of his sire's progeny, he revels in soft ground, but he will not race until the summer. Student Prince later was sent over five hurdles and gave a good display. Bi •ouzo King (Cole) and Brioni (Toki) traversed three furlongs in 41 2-ss. Notium is being treated to a short let-up. !>. George received two additions to his team yesterday in the locally-owned pair, Silvamis and Gold Band, bringing his total horses in training to six. Both mares were until recently under the care of G. A. Reid, Waverley. The Whangarei trainer. H. Scally, has arrived at Hawera with live horses and he is making this centre his headquarters for the next 12 months. He has leased six boxes opposite the racecourse. His horses include Vivacious and Disturbed, both winners at the Egmont winter meeting, the hurdler, In Command, and two novices, Flamberg, by Paladin from Sunbar, and Judgment, by Appellant from Itulable.
