FAIR TO FINE AND MILD COLD NIGHT TEMPERATUREgS The weather report and forecast foj New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows: —A rather intense anti-cyclone i, moving on to the Dominion but pressure is falling again over eastern Australia. The forecast is for light to ' moderate and variable winds with gradually prevailing south of Taranaki and Hawke's Bay, later freshening. Seas: Considerable swell at first between Cape Palliser and East Cape, otherwise smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate and variable winds, northerliei gradually predominating. Seas slight to moderate. The weather is likely to be cloudy to overcast in the far southwest and south, with light rain in coastal areas. Otherwise fair to fing with milder day but cold night ternperatures and some sharp frosts. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST FINE WITH SOUTHERLY WINDS The Government meteorologist issued to the Hkrai.d last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light southerly to southeasterly winds, becoming variable, The weather is likely to be fine and cold. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Sunny but cold weather with a light southerly wind prevailed yesterday. Temperatures were the coldest this winter, the maximum being 52 degrees and the minimum 42 degrees. Barometric pressure showed a continued rising tendency. The maximum temperature I was 47.8 degrees. The barometer at 5 p.m. was rising at 30.32 m. ' Dunedin. —The day was fine and mild with bright sunshine in the morning and for part of the afternoon., The maximum temperature was 50 degrees, there being a cool breeze from the south-west.
