DEATH OF MOTHER FAMILY MOURNING COUNTESS STRATHMORE FATAL HEART SEIZURE ROYAL VISIT TO PARIS By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received Juno 23, 5.C> p.m.) LONDON, June 2H The death occurred at 2 a.m. today of the Countess of Strathmorc, mother of Queen Elizabeth. Their Majesties were present when tho Countess passed away in her London home. The cause of death was heart trouble, from which she also suffered at the end of April. It is officially announced that there will be no Court mourning. Their Majesties will observe family mourning. The death' of the Countess is not likely to alter the plans for Their Majesties' State visit to Paris on June 28. Tho Countess of Strathmorc and Kingliorne, mother of Queen Elizabeth, was formerly Miss Nina Cecilia Caven-disli-Bentinck, daughter of the late Rev. Charles William CavcndishJJentinck, grandson of the third Duke of Portland. She married the Earl of Strathmore (then Claud George BowcsLyon, Baron Glamis, of Scotland) in ISSI, They had five sons and three daughters, the Queen being the youngest of the latter. The Countess of Strathmore was appointed a Dame Grand Cross of tho Royal Victorian Order in the Coronation honours of May 12, 1937. She and her husband celebrated their golden redding in August, 1931. The countess was noted for her untiring work for wounded soldiers during the Great War; in which one of her sons was killed and one held a prisoner of war. Glamis Castle was converted into a hospital, which it remained until long after the war ended.
