Ho did not run to-day, but expects to bo (it for Saturday's match. MATCHES ON RETURN PROTEST UPHELD The question of playing games against the New Zealand team on its return to Auckland was discussed at last evening's meeting of the Aew Zealand Rugby League. Mr. N. A. Kvle strongly supported a match between a New Zealand Maori team and a pakeha side. Jhe deputy-chairman, Mr. H. Wilson, said that it wns possible to play two matches, as the touring team was due in Auckland on Monday, July I], „ Mr. R. Doble said that the Auckland Rugby League should be first considered as it would bo very difficult to fit in any' more than one Saturday. There was a chance thai a New South Wales country team would visit New Zealand, in which caso Saturday matches against tho New Zealand team wero impossible. It was eventually decided to confer with the Auckland Rugby League and to inquire by cablegram from the New Zealand managers how far negotiations had gone regarding the proposed visit of an Australian country team. .. 'v a , kHhi "' a i Club, Whangarei. through the .Northland Rugby League, sought a ruling on an appeal against a protest by the Borland Club in a recent, game in which the latter team walked off the ground. The grounds of the protest by Portland wero that the referee was incompetent, and its action was justified. The Northland League ordered a replay, although it found no fault with the control of the game. The chairman said that it was first essential to uphold the authority controlling a game oi football, and whatever the referee's ruling, the protest of the Takahiwai Club must be upheld. The game was, therefore, awarded to Takahiwai, which was leading Portland by 2 points to 0 when the latter team walked off. Permission was granted the lnangahua Rugbv Leaftue to play the West Coast representatives for the Northern Union Cup on July 10 at Greymouth. The Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E Parry, in acknowledging a protest in regard to the personnel of the National Council of Physical Welfare and Recreation, pointed out. that the appointments to the National Council were considered on a geographical basis. It was intended, however, that district committees should be formed. The matter would be amended at tho next session of Parliament, when the representation of tho Rugby League code would be considered. It was decided to give active support to a comprehensive winter sports serie: to be held in conjunction with the Auckland provincial centennial celebrations. The appointment of a sub-committeo will be made later. Mr. T. K McKenzie, secretary of the lnangahua Rugby League, submitted a detailed report on the activities in organising the code in the Buller and Karamea districts. The report stated that the code was firmly established and a good standard of football was being shown.
