INSTITUTE AFFAIRS

Morrinsville. —There was a largo attendance at the sixth birthday celebrations of the Morrinsville Institute. The guests, among whom were officers of neighbouring institutes, were welcomed by Mrs. L. E. Pole. Mrs. Chapman, the president of the Waikato Federation, was presented with a posy. Games and dancing were enjoyed, the music being provided by Mesdames 1). L. Davis and J. Cottingham and Messrs. W. G. Glassock and G. White. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs. E. Watts, items were given by Mesdames A. Murdoch and A. Wild and .Misses -M. Stevens and D. Bennett. Supper was served. l'itirangi.—Miss Nora Lewis, presided at the monthly meeting. A report on the bi-annual conference in Auckland was presented by Mrs. Carr and Mrs. Luekens vtad a current events paper. Mrs. Busck gave a useful lecture on diet and nutrition. Afternoon tea brought the meeting to a close. Fast Tainaki. —Visitors from neighbouring institutes were present at the fifth annual birthday party. Items were given by Miss Clark and Miss Hunter and the dramatic circle presented a gipsy scene, a comedy sketch, and a gavotte. Dancing was also enjoyed. The points prize for the vear was" won bv Mis. Hill. Otaua.—Mrs. Hyland presided at the monthly meeting. Mrs. Muir gave an interesting address, and musical items «ere provided by Misses Fiudlay and Joan Bright. The hostess for the "afternoon was Mrs. W. .Johnson. Glonbrook.—The guests of honour at the monthly meeting were the members of the Otaua Institute. Mrs. Gcaron presided. Interesting addresses were given by Mrs. Tennant, of the New Zealand Food Value League, and Miss Hodgkinson. and Miss Bright gave vocal items On display were the Otaua and Glen brook competition tables. Hangatiki.—'There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting, at which Mrs. Pettigrew presided. Mrs. Smart demonstrated the making of puff pastry. The hostesses were Mesdames DoWnard and Bentley." Silvcrdale. —At the monthly meeting a farewell present of a hand-painted bridge box was given to Mrs. Nelson Storey, a foundation member of the institute. The box was presented by Mrs. Bridscm on behalf of the members. A demonstration of dress-cutting to measurements was given by Miss Jean Doherty, of Dairy Flat. Shoulder sprays were given to Airs. Storey and the president, Mrs. F. R. Sawer. Mrs. Frank Bartlet presided, and the hostesses were Mesdames Milieieh, Die Iby and K. Frith. Lichfield. —Mrs. G. G. Banger presided at the monthly meeting. It was decided that the cup be competed for annually and that each year's winner should be presented with a miniature. Mesdames Ranger and Wooderson tied for first place in the monthly competition. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Gallagher and Miss J. Sneddon.
