ONE TREE HILL BOROUGH

NO CHANGE IN RATES ESTIMATES FOR THE YEAR Notice of intention to strike an unchanged average rate of 2s lOd in the pound on the annual rental value of property was given at last night's meeting of the One Tree Hill Borough Council. Actually the rates will vary according to the drainage area -in which property is situated, the first drainage area rates being 2s 7Jd, the second, 3s 33d, and Penrose, which is unsewer.ed, 2s lid. Satisfaction was expressed by the Mayor, Mr. I. J. Goldstine, that, in spite of higher costs and the provision for the expenditure of £3OOO in capital street and water works, rates could be maintained at the existing low level. The proposed rates were estimated to produce £23,291.

The allocation for streets and footpaths for the current year was £BOOO, as compared with £11,264 for last year. Mr. Goldstine said that the latter figure was abnormal because of the additional programme of street works undertaken at the request of the Government to provide work for unemployed under the subsidised wages scheme. The revenue receipts under all headings for the present year were estimated at £34,045, as compared with the actual revenue of £34,264 received last year. The total payments provided for amounted to £34,194, a decrease of £787 on last year's figure. The cash reserves at the close of the current year were expected to total £4896, an increase of £451 over the balance at April 1 last. , . >
