MASTER APPOINTED

Dalgliesh, at present master of the Union Company's motor - freighter Waiana, has been appointed to take command of the company's new freighter Waipori, at present being built in the United Kingdom. Captain Dalgliesh will leave Auckland by the Aorangi on July 12 to join the row Bhip at Newcastle-on-Tyne. - -=•- Captain Dalgliesh is well known on the coast as one of the Union Company's captains, and has been in a great many of their coastal -and intercolonial vessels. Captain Dalgliesh will be accoru-' panied by Mr. D. J. McKenzie, who" will join the Waipori as chief officer. He was formerly in the motor-ship * Kauri. Mr. W. D. Taylor, late of the steamer Waiotapu, who has been appointed chief engineer of the Waipori, left Auckland a week ago by the Niagara to join the ship. The Waipori, which is at present;, building at the Newcastle-on-Tyne yards of Hawthorn, Leslie, and Company, Limited, will be of approxi-* mately 4400 tons gross register, with a speed of 13 knots. She will be employed in the general cargo and coal trade between South Island ports and Australia. She is expected to leave the United Kingdom toward the end of October.
