INSTITUTE AFFAIRS

Glen Eden.—Tho birthday social and danco of tho institute was held recently. After tho oldest member, Mrs. Waldron, had cut tho cake, Mesdames Brown, Hyde and Robinson were presented with bouquets. The novelty dances were won by Mr. and Mrs. Bow, Mr. and Miss Ingram, Mr. Jenner and Miss Clark, Mr. Arnold and Miss Sinclair. Items were given by Mesdames Piatt and Sunde, tho Misses Keeper, Mr. McKnight, and tho institute dramatic club. Maramarua-Kopuku.—At tho monthly meeting, Mrs. Victor Macky, of Auckland, gave a talk about her travels in Australia. Mrs. C. .1. Drake presided. Tho ladder competition was won by Mrs. G. Stunnell. Mrs. Weston, who was shortly to leave the district, was presented with an electric iron. Flowers were given to Mrs. Macky, Miss Mary Mclnncs (in honour of her approaching wedding), Mrs. Weston, and Mrs. Woolmon, who was also shortly to leave tho district. Mount Albert. —At tho second meeting held recently the president, Mrs. Housen, presented tho institute with a handsome cloth worked in blue and gold, the club colours. Mrs. Harvey gavo a collection box. Musical items were contributed, and Mrs. Deans, tho Dominion president, addressed the meeting. Afternoon tea was served. Waiukn.—Tho president of the Dominion Federation of Women's Institutes. Mrs. Deans, was present at tho montiilv meeting at Waiuku. Mrs. W. M. Campbell presided. Mrs. Deans gave an address on the relationship between the Dominion Federation and tho institutes and outlined the work carried out by the Dominion executive, with special reference to the scheme for adult education, and welfare work. Tho youngest member of the institute, Miss Eva West, presented Mrs. Deans with a bouquet. Items were given by Misses Z. Finlav and W. West. Mrs. Eddy decorated tho stage, and the hostesses were Mesdames J. Muir, D. Hayes and Pearson. Milium. —Tho decorations at the fifth birthday celebrations were carried out in tho institute The guests, including visitors from neighbouring institutes, were Avelcomed by Mrs. Gamble and Mrs. Pieknrd. Posies of woodptilp flowers were presented to Mesdames Blake and Kerr-Taylor, of Waimauku. The visiting presidents were each presented with flowers. Items were given by Mesdames Stevens and Pickard and Miss Owens, and Mrs. Kerr-Taylor gave a talk on handwork. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames W r . Matheson, J. E.
