MEMORIAL IN SAMOA

LATE SIR G. RICHARDSON HIS WORK NOT FORGOTTEN (Received June 17, 5.5 p.m.) APIA, June 16 To perpetuate tho memory of the late Major-General Sir George Richardson, former Administrator of Western Samoa, it is proposed to erect, by public subscription, a bronze tablet or other form of memorial. Tributes are paid to the benefit of Sir George's administration, including his work for the banana industry. Ho inaugurated tho hydro-electric plant, and the town water supply was installed and a wharf for local shipping was built during his regime. Village water supplies, improved sanitation and gifts of land to necessitous villages are also mentioned as acts not forgotten by the Samoans. Ho identified himself with tho religious and social life of the people among whom he lived and worked.
