OBITUARY

MR. JOHN MOSS COSTLEY HOME MANAGER The first manager of the Costley Home, now the Auckland Infirmary, Mr. John Moss, died at his home in Turama Road, Royal Oak, on Thursday, aged 84. Mr. Moss was born near Birmingham, and came to New Zealand in 1886. Soon after he was appointed manager of the Auckland Boys' Rest, an institution formed to care for orphan and neglected boys in the city, the Costley Home was established at Epsom in 1890 he became its first manager and Mrs. Moss took ,up the duties of matron. In the 'nineties lie took charge of the Auckland Y.M.C.A. gymnasium for a long period and was most successful in the physical training of boys and voting men. On his retirement from the Costley Home in 1901 an illuminated testimonial was presented to him in appreciation of his services. He is survived by Mrs. Moss. MR. W. H.
