CENTENNIAL SHOW
SUPPORT FOR PLAN The suggestion to hold a Centennial agricultural show, combining the winter exhibition and a national congress of agriculture, at the Show Grounds, Epsom, in 1940 was strongly supported by members of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association at its meeting yesterday afternoon. The suggestions were made at a recent meeting of the agricultural, manufacturing and commercial committee of the Auckland Provincial Centennial Council and were reported to the association by Messrs. S. I. Crookes, M. G. McArthur and W. F. O'Donnell. It was decided to co-operate with the Centennial Council in carrying out the proposals. Proposals for holding a summer sports carnival from January 22 to February 3, 1940, and a winter carnival in the following August were outlined by the sporting events sub-committee and the association resolved to assist in these matters. Referring to grants made by the Government for work at the Epsom Show Grounds, Mr. O'Donnell stated that the district employment officer of the Labour Department had notified that an additional grant of £4BO had heen authorised for the employment of 30 men for a further four weeks at the Show Grounds. Of the total grant of £2520 made to date, £237 still remained available.
