,THE GISBORNE SEAT NATIONAL PARTY NOMINEE [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] GISBORNE, Friday Subject to the approval of the national executive, Mr. K. F. Jones has been selected as National Party candidate to contest the Gisborne seat out of five nominees whose names were submitted to a ballot last evening. Mr. Jones, who is 35 years of age, is engineer to the Cook County Council. He is the son of the Mayor of Dargaville. The Gisborne seat is at present held by Mr. D. W. Coleman (Labour). EGMONT CONTEST NO NATIONAL CANDIDATE [BY TELEGRAFH OWN CORRESPONDENT] NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday It is unlikely that the National Party will nominate a candidate to contest the Egmont seat against the sitting member, Mr. C. A. Wilkinson. When questioned concerning tho matter, the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Adam Hamilton, said that if the supporters of tho party in that electorate did not wish to nominate a candidate he would be quite satisfied. As for the attitude of his party toward the seat, Mr. Hamilton said it was a matter for the members of the party, but lie had suggested that they should not oppose Mr. Wilkinson. Mr. Wilkinson desired to retain his independence, but the National Party his attitude to the policy of the Government and to its legislation. The recent statement from a reliable source that Mr. Wilkinson would vote with the Opposition 011 a no-confidence motion has not been contradicted, and in the present Parliament lie has voted consistently with the National Party.
