POLITICS IN HOSPITAL
ADDRESSES TO BE BANNED DEPARTMENT'S INSTRUCTIONS [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT. WHANGAEEI, Monday
A statement that it had been brought to the department's knowledge that a group of patients at a hospital board institution had recently been given an address of a largely political nature was contained in a letter from the Department of Health received at a meeting of the Whangarei Hospital Board to-day. "'lnquiries have shown that in the particular instance the officer in charge had granted permission for the address in the belief that he was acting in accordance with a precedent," stated the letter. "It is, however, clearly not in the interests of patients generally that such facilities should be granted, particularly as it is obviously difficult to set a limit on them. "It would be appreciated, therefore, if boards would instruct that in no circumstances are facilities to be granted for political addresses at any institution under their control." It was stated that permission had never been given at Whangarei, and that this course was to be adhered to.
