PRICES AT SMITHFIELD FIRM MARKET FOR LAMB WETHERS IN SHORT SUPPLY Continued firmness in the Siaithfield market for lamb is reported by the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board. The report for the past week states that there has been a further small advance in heavy weights, while in tho mutton market light weight wethers are very firm owing to short spot stocks. Ewes also are firmer with a better inquiry. Chilled beef is easier, the demand being affected by tho weather. The market for New Zealand porker pigs is quiet and unchanged. Owing to the dull condition of the bacon market, baconer pigs are easier. Following are ruling prices of wholesale quantities announced by the board, together with values ruling at the close of the previous week: —

THE CITY MARKETS DESSERT APPLES SOUGHT CAULIFLOWERS .DEARER There was a fair inquiry for choice dessert apples and cooking and eating pears at the City Markets yesterday, but' cooking apples were difficult to dispose of. A good demand for hothouse tomatoes resulted in an increase in price, but tree tomatoes were slow of sale. Lemons and marmalade oranges met with a poor inquiry. A decrease in the price or pineapples resulted from the arrival of a shipment during the week. , , , Relief from the high prices that have been ruling for cabbages was afforded by a fair supply, which was offered at the markets yesterday, but cauliflowers are still very scarce, realising up to 20s a sack.
