WINDING-UP GALLOPS FAST FIVE FURLONGS RED WITCH SHADES SARDIUS [by telegraph—OWN correspondent) HASTINGS, Thursday One of the first horses sent out for the final gallops at Hastings to-day was Lindrum, who ran three furlongs in 36Js on the inside grass, with J. A. Forsyth in the saddle. This gallop was attractive, and his . poor showing on Monday last is attributable to his speedy-cutting himself. Golden Melody (Forsyth) and Hastings West (A. Griffiths) ran an easy five furlongs in I.BJ. lddo (J. Ireland) was stopping at the end of a mile run in 1.405, but the first half was run in 50s. He was picked up for the last four furlongs by Peter Warlock Brilliant Acre (11. Marsh) and Kalika (L. Cullcn) completed a five-furlong gallop together in 1.5. Haile Selassie (C. Cameron) was against tho bit when running half a mile on tho plough in 535. Mesurina (Forsyth) and Jazz Boy (H. Callahan) took 1.5$ for five, but the latter was travelling very comfortably, and looks better for his Napier racing. Padishah (Cullen) just beat Buster Brown (B. Stowe) in recording 1.45. Ties Sec (Forsyth) and Trailer (Marsh) were together all the way over a mile in 1.47&. Royal Spades (C. P. Shield) was sprinted on the plough, as also was his stable-mate Shani, but they were not timed. Refulgent (Callahan) and lied Cockade (H. Gilmer) were well clear of Cdlenso (J. Dooley) at the end of 6ix furlongs in 1.19, but Colenso had the worst ..of the weights. „ . Inheritance (P. Cleaver) and Gainsfid (H. Miirray) were on terrfls : at the conclusion of a mile, the last seven ■ furlongs taking 1.35. i t Sporting Song (Dowrick) had the measure of Booklaw (R. Sergeant) at the end of a mile in 1.50. These two had previously jumped several hurdles in capable manner. It is understood that Sporting Song, who is engaged in both the hurdles and steeplechase on Saturday, will start in the latter race. Arabic; (Forsyth) was a little too good for Hillside (J. Ireland) at tlx© end of half a mile run in 525. Arctic Queen (B. Stowe) and the Fondle colt (Marsh) registered 52£s easily. Proclamation (Callahan) and Morning Flight (Dowrick) were clear of The Treble at the end of four furlongs run in 51s. The first two went very well. Seyfried (I. Briggs) and Tapurau (Stowe) could not have done much better than the I.lßs recorded for six furlongs. ~ j On the plough, Short Circuit (Marsh) was under restraint when registering 40s for three furlongs. Colleen Gain (IT. Cleaver) beat King's Hope over five furlongs in 1.6 J. Master Hector (J. Forsyth) was not out to make time when taking 1.4Q for teven furlongs. The best effort of the morning's gallops was when Red Witch (Forsyth) finished slightly ahead of Sardius (Callahan) at the end of five furlongs in 1.35. Pladie (Marsh) was at least six lengths in front of Lovelilt (Forsyth) at the conclusion of a mile in 1.49. Schooling Tasks

Don Erma <W. Gnndlay) .was schooled over a couple of fences. Mandant (E. Deslandes) was tried over two brush fences, and took kindly to his task. This was his first attempt.

Agog (W. Tricklebank) was ahead of Coil (1. Rohloff) throughout a schooling lesson over six hurdles. The latter showed a big improvement. Acron (Grindlay) gave a perfect exhibition of jumping in company with Kikiroki (Rohlolf) over a round of the country. The latter also went well, and outjumped his mate at the last brush.

YOUNG TRAINER'S WINS

FOUR FOR L: J. MAHONEY

With four successes, L. J. Mahoney was the leading trainer and reinsman at the Auckland Trotting Club's Winter Meeting. Two of his representatives, Pirate's Last and Vanora, scored twb wins each, and Mahoney, who is only a young trainer, deserves credit for the condition in which they were turned out. ' - !.■

F. J. Snjith, who returned to the winning list when he drove Sandusky to victory at the Cambridge meeting last month, trained three winners, Ironside, Crocus and Paranri. Smith drove Crocus and Paranri, while A. J. Julian was behind Ironside. Smith had the distinction of training the winner of the Adams Memorial Handicap and the C. F. Mark Memorial Handicap, while in the latter event he had the pleasure of providing the three placed horses, Crocus, Ironside and Nervie\s Last. Mahoney and Smith were the only trainers to provide more than one winner.

By the success of Pirate's Last, who registered, two firsts and a second, Mjtj J. Mahoney headed the list of winning owners at'the Auckland Trotting Club's Winter Meeting with £345. Mr. W> Hosking, whose horse Ironside notched a first and a second in the principal races, secured £315, and, in addition took the £SO gold cup attached to the Adams Memorial Handicap Vanora with two wins, gave his joint owners, Messrs, F. Herring, sen., and L. J. Mahoney, £320, and-the victory of Crocus in the C. F. Mark Memorial was worth £245 to Mr W. A. Eddowes FUTURE EVENTS ?
