WESTFIELD QUOTATIONS VALUES SLIGHTLY FIRMER DEMAND WELL MAINTAINED Values for dairy and store cattle showed a firming tendency at the Westfield weekly stock sale yesterday. The yardings in both sections were not as large as usual, but there was some fine quality stock offering. Good springing cows and heifers sold up to £l3 and other good sorts not so close to profit realised over £lO. The demand f<?r the better-class lines waa keen and bidding brisk. In the store section prices also firmed over last week's rates and young cows realised up to £6 10s. A line ot 80 store cows from Taneatua found a ready market and values ranged from £2 10s to £6 10s. Heavy potter bulls were somewhat scarce and mediumweights made up to £7 ss. The quotations were:—

Limited. All quality sorts, close to profit, sold to an exceptionally good demand, prices rising to £l7. The entry of beef, boner, and store cattle was also heavy, and sold to a good demand at ruling rates, while a large yarding of all classes of pigs found a ready market at good prices. Worth, when approximately 500 head of dairy cattle were submitted to a good bench of buyers. Competition for early calvers showing quality and condition was firm and values compared favourably with recent clearing sale realisations. Bidding for backward and later calvers, however, was not so keen. KARAKA PEDIGREE RATES [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Thursday Alfred Buckland and Sons, Limited, reports having held a clearing sale in conjunction with the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. Limited, at Karaka, of Mr. W. R. Hill's pedigree and grade milking Shorthorn herd. Ihere was a good attendance of buyers from the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, North Auckland, and surrounding districts. The cows came forward in good condition, and showed plenty of quality. Bidding was keen and the satisfactory average of 18 guineas was obtained for the pedigree cows, while the graders averaged £l2 7s. The pedigree cows ranged in price from 12% guineas to 34 guineas for the eight-vear-old cow White Socks 11., the purchaser being Mr. D. Stewart, of Mount Albert. The in-calf heifers made 5 guineas to 9 guineas, and the heifer calves 2 guineas to 5 guineas. The four herd bulls made from 11 guineas to 19/4 guineas for "Kohekohe .Karaka,' purchased by Mr. J. E. Gaskill, of Opotiki. Prices for the grade milking Shorthorn cows ranged from £9 10s to £lB 10s. TAMAHERE DISPOSAL G. W. Vercoe and Company, Limited, reports having held a clearing sale on account of Mr. E. J. Porter, Tamahere. There was a large attendance of buyers at the Taumarunui dairy stock sale. An entry of fully -100 dairy cows and heifers came forward, very satisfactory prices being obtained. Dairy cows, £4 to £lO 10s; Jersey heifers, £5 to £7 ss; Shorthorn heifers, £7 15s. Dalgety and Company, Limited, reports the full advertised yarding of dairy stock came forward and sold under keen competition. Buyers were present from Morrinsville, Matamata, Cambridge and Stratford. There was keen demand for good conditioned sound dairy cows close to profit, which Bold readily at good prices. Herd cows on account of Couttes Brothers. Te Koura, sold remarkably well, making to £lO and averaging £7 335.
