ANNUAL CONFERENCES ELECTIONS OF OFFICERS [FBOM OUB OWX CORRESPONDENT] TORONTO, May 5 ' The closing days of April saw the annual meetings hero or the three major newspaper bodies of this country —the CanAuian Daily Newspapers Association, the Canadian Press, and the Canadian section of the Empire Press Union.
At the meeting of the Canadian Daily Newspapers Association, Mr. Victor Sifton, of the Winnipeg Free Press, was elected president, succeeding Lieu-tenant-Colonel R. F. Parkinson, of the Ottawa Journal. The association authorised the foundation of a subsidiary organisation, to be known as tho Bureau of Advertising, whose object will be business research and the promotion of daily newspaper advertising. At the meeting of the Canadian Press. H. P. Duchemin, K.C., managing director of the Sydney Post-Record, was "re-elected president. The following were also re-elected: —Honorary president, M. E. Nichols, Vancouver Province; first vice-president, \V. Rupert Davies. Kingston Whig-Stan-dard; second vice-president, J. A. McNeil, Montreal Gazette; C. A. Day is treasurer and J. F. B. Livesay general manager. a The Canadian section of the Empire Press Union named Dr. P. D. Ross, president of the Ottawa Journal, its honorary chairman in succession to the late Lord Atholstan. publisher of the Montreal Star. J. H. Woods, C.M.G., Calgary Herald, was re-elected chairman, and W. A. C'raick. Industrial Canada, Toronto, honorary secretarytreasurer. The following executive committee was elected: —\V. Rupert Davies. Kingston Whin-Standard: Henri Oagnon, Quebec Lc Soleil; Victor Sifton. Winnipeg Free Press; E. Roy Sayles. Renfrew Mercury: H. T. Hunter. MacLean Publishing Company, Toronto. T. F. Drummie, St. John Telegraph-Jour-nal, was re-elected auditor.
