THAR WORRIES SHEEP
SOLUTION OF MYSTERY ANIMAL SEEN IN THE ACT SHOT BY FARM EMPLOYEE [by telegraph—own correspondent] BLENHEIM, Wednesday Mysterious sheep worrying that has beon occurring on Mr. Alex. Thomson's run in the Ward district was solved yesterday when an employee shot a large buck thar, which was discovered in the act of attacking a mob of 40 sheep which it had rounded up. The animal was seen repeatedly to charge the sheep, ripping the victims with ita sharp curved horns. So intent was it on its furious attacks that it w&s easily stalked and shot. Pieces of skin, wool and flesh of sheep were found on the horns of the thar. One sheep had been killed and others were severely injured, their wounds being similar to the punctures noted on other victims of the previously inexplicable worrying.
The thar is a native of the Himalaya Mountains and since its liberation in New Zealand for sporting purposes has been found chiefly in the Mount Cook area. How this animal came to wander so far north is a mystery, for it is a mountain dweller, but another specimen was shot several years ago at Tuamarina. As far as is known these are the only two ever seen in Marlborough.
