SQUALLY WITH RAttf COLDER TEMPERATURES - The weather report and forecast fo r New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as f o j, lows:—A rather deep westerly depres - sion is crossing the Dominion, pressure being low in the south. Meanwhile an anti-cyclone of rather slight intensity is moving on, to the North Tasman Sea The forecast is for moderate to strong northerly to north-westerly winds pr e . vailing at first, but a change to westerlies or south-westerlies advancing from the west. Seas moderate coastal waters on parts of the ewt ■ coast. Otherwise rather rough to rough Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to'"' strong south-westerly winds, later again turning to north-west only in tfi# 1 southern portion. Seas rough. The weather is likely to be changeable and rather squally, with occasional rain in most districts and thunder on parts of the west coast. Some snow is probable ll on the ranges. The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate to strong west to south-west winds. The weather 3 likely to be changeable with passing showers. Temperatures cold. Seas rough on the West Coast, rather rough but decreasing on the East Coast.

YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland.—Following rgin yesterday morning, the afternoon was 'fine, but overcast and showers were again experienced last night. The wind was moderate from the north. The maximum temperature was 60 degrees and the minimum 49 degrees. The barometer fell until the late afternoon, when it recovered slightly. Wellington.—A strong north-west-erly wind prevailed. The day was overcast early with intermittent rain, but in the afternoon there was an improve* ment, and temperatures were milder. The minimum temperature on Tuesday night was 49 degrees, and the maximum yesterday was 57.4 degrees. At 3 p.m. the barometer read 29.507 in. Christchurch. —The weather was overcast but mild. There was no wind. The maximum temperature was 69 degrees. The barometer dropped sharply to 29.41 in. at 5 p.m.

Dunedin.—The day was cold and dull with mist on the hills around the city. The maximum temperature was 51 degrees. The barometer continued to fall, and early in the evening the recording was 29.49 in. The following official report was issued at 4 p.m. yesterday:—
