NEW POWER BOARD
FIRST MEETING HELD RE-ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN TRIBUTES TO EX-MEMBERS Newly-elected members of the Auckland Electric-Power Board were welcomed at the first meeting of the new board yesterday. The adjourned annual meeting, to deal with the election of a chairman and deputy-chairman, was also held.
The meeting re-elected the present chairman, Mr. S. J. Harbutt, and Mr. S. Irwin Crookes was re-appointed deputy-chairman. The chairman's honorarium was fixed at £4OO a year, the same as last year. The board carried resolutions placing on record its appreciation of the services of the Hon. T. Bloodworth, M.L.C., who was defeated at the last election, and of Mr. R. G. Clark, who did not seek re-election for health reasons.
The resolution concerning Mr. Bloodworth's work referred to his sound and impartial judgment, and to his record of public service. The circumstances which had deprived the board of his further co-operation and assistance were sincerely regretted, and the board looked, forward with confidence to his early return to public service in the interests of the city. The second resolution dealt with Mr. Clark's work and expressed regret that for reasons of health he had been unable to continue in office. The board expressed the hope that he would enjoy a speedy recovery. Various members spoke in praise of the work of both Mr. Bloodworfch and Mr. Clark, and expressed regret that the public no longer had the benefit of their long experience as members of the Auckland Electric-Power Board. The board decided to present the resolutions to them in the form of illuminated addresses, signed by all members o? the board.
Committees were appointed, and the chairman, for the benefit of new members, gave an outline of the policy and of various undertakings. An early opportunity will be taken for members to inspect the board's works, and also to visit Arapuni. , N
