DEVON AND CORNWALL , LADY GALWAY AS GUEST ENJOYABLE SOCIAL EVENING Her Excellency Viscountess Galway, and the Countess of Orford. both of whom are patronesses of the Devon and Cornwall Club, were the guests of honour at a social evening held by the club last night in the Catholic Women's League rooms. Lady Galway wore a frock of rose beige lace and a short cape of sables; Lady Orford wore a gown of silver grey delustred satin, with which she wore a necklet of silver fox furs. Accompanying Her Excellency was Mrs. R. G. G. Byron, who wore a frock of cyclamen georgette and deep prune satin, and a matching cOat of prune and silver brocade. The guests of honour were received bv Mrs. L. Harvey, who wore black velvet and silver lame. She was assisted by Mrs. Y. A. Brickell, who was dressed in larkspur blue crepe, and M iss Al. Harvey, who was in a frock of ciel blue net and silver lame. Other members of the committee present were Mrs. C. Snow, who wore chocolate brown marocain; Mrs. J. Cantwell, in Saracen red brocaded taffetas; Mrs. N. McEvoy, in black ring velvet; and Mrs. 1. Gimlet, who wore black cloque. In thanking the members for the welcome they had given_ her. Lady Galway said that all over New Zealand she had noticed the deep affection the people had for their home country. She was especially pleased to see the people of Devon arid Cornwall meet in remembrance of their native land, for those parts Avere not only some of the most beautiful in England, but had also been the birthplace of many of her greatest men. After Lady Gal way's speech a varied programme of exhibition dances, recitations, songs and instrumental items was given, after which the members joined in old-time dancing.
