Conza at 16 guineas. Lazybones is proving an oxcellent bargain for Mr. it. J. C. Smith, who purchased the colt lit the Easter sales at 300 guineas. Since then Lazybones luls scored three wins in three starts and looks by no means at the cud of his tether. Triple Cone was produced, by a good mare in Silver Peak, a winner of the Great Autumn Handicap and several other, races. Triple Cone showed speed on tho first dfiy, but faded right out in the straight. He stayed on much better to win the' Novice Handicap on Monday at Wingatui.

' Small Boy's appearance as a hurdler had been eagerly awaited by Hawkc's Bay racegoers and when lie went out for the Waiohiki Hurdles on Monday he was a pronounced favourite. The expectations of speculators were realised handsomely and it is evident Small Boy will be heard of again this winter.-

Mendelssohn, winner of the Trial Plate at. Napier Park>oll Monday, made iij) for his had Itrck in the running on the first day and scored easily. This gelding is a three-year-old, 'by Hunting Song from Anttimina, a-half-sister to Aiguille and Lo Chasseur. is owned and trained by J. W. Nixon, Gisborne.

At ono stage of the Trial Plate at Greenmeadows, Sunny Lass was so far in front that many regarded her as unbeatable. She was Avell clear entering tho straight, where Mendelssohn and Royal Spades, tho favourite, were already being hard-ridden; However, Mendelssohn caught her and won going away. ' •

The winner of the Ohau Handicap, the last event at Otaki on Monday, ■Flying Acre, was a maiden galloper ,with little racing experience. Ho is a three-year-old gelding by Acre from Pink Page, by Romeo from the renowned mare, Persia. Flying Acre is therefore closely related to Gay Seton and Gay Chief. Ho runs in the colours of Mr. T. Jones and is trained at Levin. *

It is astonishing to seo the once unsound Gladium still running into places at eight years old. Ho has been racing in different districts for six seasons contesting 37 races, but he has won only live of them. After he, hud won at his only two starts as a three-year-old, his future looked soqure> lie was produced only ]0 times in tho next three years. He and Liano aro both the progeny of Degage.

Diareus jyul Titter had tho issue to themselves in the Waikanae Scurry at Otaki 011 Monday, and the former, with rating experience on his side, ran home a safe winner, following his second in tho first division of the Kuku Mniden 011 Saturday. Diareus, by Arausio from Miss Diaci|uenod, is owned and trained by H. 11. J.origan at Trenthani. Titter, Mr. T. A. Duncan's Laughing Prince filly from Sigma, by Psychology. Both two-year-olds aro well endowed with speed.

Best fancied of tho four runners in the Park Steeples 011 Monday, Don Krma ran oil at the second of the stand double. was made to jump that fence and set out after the others; who were then a furlong in.front. However, Don Krma fell at the fence he had previously missed. Tho others entered the straight in close order and Kahunoko, who jumped well in the second stage of tho race, won from the improved Skerrvvore. Do/.io, who was third, close up, and was outjumping the winner early, broke down nearing home, PROFITABLE SEASON LADY MONTANA'S SEVEN WINS Lady Montana lias been a great proposition for her owner and trainer, B. Burgess, this season. Sho had won three times prior to achieving a double at the recent Wanganui meeting and she followed this up by winning 011 both days at Otaki. As a two-year-olil she showed no form, but her three-year-old racing so far has produced seven successes, three seconds and six thirds in 20 starts.
