TKAINING ACTIVITIES STAR PRONTO BEST SPRINT . LADY FAME'S GOOD EFFORT BY ABAYDOS Sprinting tho last half-mile of an easy mile and a-half In 1.6, Star Pronto registered tho best timo at Epsom yesterday, but Lady Famo, 1.9, and Lucky Love, 1.10, could havo improved; Tho best of tho others were:—Tommy McElwyn, 1.9, and Reception and Stargum, 1.10. Eynon) trotted the last six of 10 furlongs in 1.51. Great Surprise. (L. Laver) was fairly wide out while working threo laps at a 2.40 gait. He ..may have prospects in. the Royal Handicap. Frontier Boy (A. Garriett) trotted a milo and a-half, but was not comfort-, able going round the turns. Lucky Love Unhoppled Lucky Love (W. Willetts) worked a mile and three furlongs unhoppled, coming home the last half comfortablyin 1.10. Sir Frank is ver}- fit and thrives on free-legged tasks. Bingen Sun (G. A. Williams), after going to the mile in 2.34, completed a mile and a-half in 3.48. Moko Girl (C. R. Wood) was sent two miles in saddle and hit out solidly. The two races she had recently have made her much brighter. Wiri Bingen (J. Parsons) trotted two miles, breaking on the bends through hitting his knees. Our McKinney (L. N., Vernall) was given two miles unhoppled, doing his work well. Munga Tangi (L. Laver), free-legged, executed a useful task over three circuits. It will not be for want of condition if he fails to show up in the Liverpool Handicap. ■ A Smart Filly Tho three-year-old Our Princess (W. Willetts) drew, attention to her improvement by running the first half of a 2.20 mile in 1.8. She is an attractive pacer by Rey de Oro —Bingen Crest and half-sister to Jewel Crest. Sylvan (L. T. Berkett) and Dusky Chum (C. Berkett), the latter in saddlo, worked; a milo and threequarters. They were joined by Roman Chief (A. J. Forbes) in the first mil© -and a-quarter, but Dusky Chum led Sylvan,home, taking 1.15 for the last half. Sylvan, who looks in great heart, iVas nqt extended. Tommy McElwyn (A. McKenzie) led Our Peggy (F. Smith) from the mile and a-half, but they were together at the mile in 2.28. Tommy McElwyn took charge at the two furlongs, where Our Peggy was eased and completed his effort in-3.37. Tommy McElwyn in the June Handicap is giving away five Beconds to start. Cranston) gave an even displav while trotting two miles at a little bettor than a 2.40 rate. On top of tho ground she may go well. On the Sand Nelson Chief (E. Gadsby), without being taxed, trotted two miles. Ho should be benefited by his first day's race and his solidness will again give him prospects. * Win Huon (H. Billington) trotted a milo and a-half and Lady Amanda (C. Garmousway), unhoppled, sprinted ; : a few furlongs. ..... , Waingako (C. Moran) and Autumn Lu (G. H. .Stubbs) were not hurried •while going two miles. Pirate's Last (L. J.. Mahoooy) and. Golden Maid (C. Mahoney) . stepped along usefully over a mile and a-half. YOUNG TRAINER'S LUCK L. J. MAHONEY'S EIGHT WINS The young Epsom trotting trainer L. J. Mahoney has had a run of success during tho last few months with Pirate's Last., Vanora and Luminate. Pirate's Last opened his account with a dual win at the February meeting and he won again in April, but for galloping on the post was placed third. Last Saturday the Nelson Bingen trotter ran first and second and his record for six starts is threo wins, a second and a third. He has come from 3.49 to a 3.36 line. Vanora was four times placed in five starts before lie scored his first win at New Plymouth and lie has continued in splendid form, winning at Hawera. Claiidelands and Epsom. The Rey de Oro golding in 12 consecutive starts has registered four firsts, two seconds and five thirds. Only a four-year-old, Vanora has advanced from 3.43 to 3.29. Luminate, who has been through many hands, was quite recently purchased by Mahoney for £l2, the price including a quantity of gear. Luminate Avon a small prize at the Winter Show. This he followed up with a clear-cut victory ft the Waikato meeting to return a large win dividend, the first ho had paid for several years. Golden Maid, another Mahoney candidate, won last June, and the latest addition to tho stable, Jewel Crest, had his first run for Mahoney at the C'ambridgo meeting.
