PROFESSIONALISM IN GOLF
The lot of the average British professional is not a happy one, according to a London golf writer, who says: "1 find that the average golf professional makes £5 a week at' certain periods of the year, but that at other times his income ir much less. He is paid a small retaining fee, the assumption being that he will make his money from teaching and selling golf balls, clubs and other articles. But golfers, instead of patronising the professional's shop, go elsewhere for their supplies." One professional attached to a London club said that after paying the expenses of his shop he barely makes £1 a week.
